Restaurant-Check: Bonito, Saint Barth

Once in St Barths it was our primary focus to have dinner at the well known Bonito restaurant - not just because it is rated Number One Restaurant by (big competitor) TripAdvisor, also because of it's reputation to be the place to dine in Gustavia. We arrived quite early in the evening so we could enjoy the sunset and the view over the picturesque harbour and capital of Saint Barthelemy: Gustavia. To start this evening right we ordered one of their famous cocktails. I've had a tropical mojito with passion fruit and Daniel tried a basil mule, a fresh and bit spicy cocktail!

With the cocktail they served us an amuse bouche a fresh and cold vegetable soup with sesame.

While the sun was going down, we were served with our starters. Finally, after a long time we finally had truffled dishes again - what a pleasure! My colleague Daniel went for the truffled tiradito, thin slices of their catch of the day with fresh summer truffle and truffle oil served with sweet potatoes. I chose the summer truffle salad - a simple dish but more than delicious with fresh summer truffle, parmesan cheese, truffle oil vinaigrette and a butter toast. The appetizers were truly heavenly!! I mean it's one of the most glamorous islands in the world, so we didn't expect the food to be anything else.

For "primi piatti" we shared the delicious lobster risotto with the top of an asparagus plus seafood foam. It was simply perfect. The Caribbean lobster is a bit bigger than the typical lobster from the Atlantic or the Mediterranean Sea, meaning they have more meat inside them. This course was paired by a Sauvignon blanc from the Napa Valley.

After the pasta dish we tried their beef tenderloin. While I had the classic one with mac and cheese as well as a glass of Bordeaux red wine, Daniel had the luxurious edition of the grill dishes. Since he is our "gourmet" he always needs the best of the best :D! He had the beef tenderloin topped with Foie Gras. He also tried the world famous cocktail "Sex in the bath tub" which is not only lovely designed it is also a fresh and fruity cocktail which tastes amazing.

For dessert we shared a passion fruit sorbet in meringue which was flamed. The perfect dessert for such a wonderful dinner. After dinner we had two Mexican Mules in the lounge area, since the restaurant began to get completely full and the staff was in need for additional tables. In fact, the bar and lounge area is the perfect place to enjoy this lively restaurant and watch all the guests coming and going while an excellent DJ plays cool house music. We really loved the restaurant and entire atmosphere. Bonito is definitely THE place to be when you are in Gustavia and more important: it's been worth the splurge of 45 euros for a one way taxi drive from Le Toiny.

One last thing: Make sure to book a table a few days in advance - especially during high season and weekends!

We have been invited by the Bonito Restaurant, however all above written expresses our own opinion and have not been influenced.
