48 Hours at the Four Seasons Milano

ILTM is starting soon, new business generated, appointments planned, and the weather is simply not on the bright side of life. Sooner or later, I knew that it was time for a wellness getaway. Well, a city getaway wouldn't be bad either, I was telling myself. So what about combining culture with pleasure? As all my current favorite cities start with an M, Milan was soon to be selected. A five-star hotel with a big indoor pool and in the middle of the town? Four Seasons Milano was my first choice and it did not take long until I arrived at the pretty unspectacular looking entry gate. But what was waiting behind these solid doors was pure magic . . .

While the porters freed me from my heavy Armani bag, I was soon escorted by another porter to the hidden front desk. Of course they did not forget the obligatory "Welcome to the Four Seasons" after opening the doors of my Uber. Well, generally they never forget anything to do or say - after all it's a Four Seasons so what else should I expect? Check-in was ultra-high-speed (I entered all details in the very cool Four Seasons App, where you can also check-in and order additional amenities without any (!!) - and I mean it always worked - problems) and the super nice front desk lady also had my Junior Suite ready at 10 am. How is that possible? A hotel without problems and apologies! Thank you for probably the most stress less check-in of the year.

"We upgraded you to a Junior Suite" are exactly the words a discerning and well-traveled luxury traveler loves to hear after a five-hour arrival. Indeed, the absolutely only thing I could complain about is the long way to Suite 210 (no, just a joke - we are just too used of Boutique Hotels). After opening the doors, the first thing I was thinking of was SPACE! I bet the bathroom was bigger than average hotel rooms in Milan, not speaking about our vast living-/sleeping area of the Junior Suite. With two very big European twin beds, a comfy sofa, two armchairs, a writing desk with internet access and wooden floors, the suite was far better than expected. There was also a comfortable smell in the room, probably of a room spray the housekeeping adds after cleaning.

Speaking about space, the bathroom was also super-luxurious in complete white marble and a walk-in shower (yes I was absolutely happy with it!) with mosaic wall. I loved the idea of a room diffusor and furthermore they owned my heart with extra Acqua di Parma toiletries to take away! It is unbelievable to see that a hotel finally understands that you simply need two towels per person - Thanks Four Seasons for this luxury. Slippers in different sizes like Small, Medium and Large are a big plus, as super heavenly bath robes.

This stay showed me that luxury must not only be in the upscale furniture, no way! It also consists of the choice of pillows, the amount of towels, the perfect and excellent housekeeping service (Just one thing to mention was that they did not refill the bath toiletries in the shower and they removed the 2/3 full sparkling wine, which my colleague received for his birthday and we wanted to finish after dinner) twice a day, the exclusive toiletries, the expensive finishing and the exquisite details.

Milan. 10.30 am. Still waiting for my colleagues to arrive, what activity is best done alone? Right! It's still time to hide myself in the old wine cellar of this top property. Just opened a few years ago, the Spa at the Four Seasons Milano is a truly hidden gem just off Via Montenapoleone and therefore the true shopping center of Milan. I arrived and was asked to sign a paper before I got a tour of the spa without even asking - that's how I want a spa visit to begin. A truly impressive indoor pool with 14 meters and a temperature of 32 degrees Celsius, there is nothing more I was looking for. In addition there is a gender separated spa area with sauna, steam bath and changing room - as usual at a Four Seasons with all luxury products including comb, hair gel, hair spray, mouthwash, and more. Throughout the spa there were always fruit juices, grapes and dried fruits in addition to chilled water and cold towels next to the sauna.

As Milan is famous for going out, neither did we stay at the hotel all night. After a dinner at Obica on top of famous La Rinascente (equal to a small version of Selfridges), we also discovered the cool areas around Moscova, Brera and Navigli - places not to miss on your next Milan trip. On the next morning I was really overwhelmed by the amazing breakfast. Luckily we had a bed and breakfast offer otherwise it would have got very expensive. For instance: Make sure to book a room with breakfast - it is absolutely worth it.

So there were I, sitting on a wonderful table, overlooking the green garden, waken-up by the first rays of sun shining through the buildings and being served by truly attentive staff members. Ordering plain scrambled eggs were no problem as were Crepes with Nutella. I did not even want to go to the buffet until the head waiter told me that it is worth a look. Oh and wow, the freshest orange juice has been served - unlimited. Well, that they had Focaccia for breakfast was clear anyhow - I love them! There was absolutely nothing I missed: A breakfast fit for the most discerning travelers. They even have a huge American breakfast and an even bigger Japanese breakfast.

I think there is no need to mention that late check-out was no problem either. Luggage assistance worked perfectly and they packed the taxi for me before I was wished safe travels and a convenient journey.

Dear Four Seasons Milano, this was a perfect city escape and we can highly recommend the Four Seasons Hotel Milano to every luxury traveler seeking for a hidden palace within the pedestrian area and featuring a world-class spa.

We were exclusively invited by the Executive Office of Four Seasons Milano. This was our first cooperation with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts and we hope to develop this cooperation. As always this review has not been influenced and expresses my absolute own opinion... it was simply wonderful.
