24 Hours at The Charles Hotel - Munich

Being it the first time I spent holidays in my hometown, I was really excited to be guest of the luxurious and famous The Charles Hotel, a Rocco Forte Hotel! Due to the fact that the hotel had a huge group check-out, nobody was helping us with the luggage at arrival and therefore we didn't feel welcome at the first moment! When we were checked in and accompanied to the room, the holiday-feeling started! A kind lady from the marketing department showed us around the hotel and gave us a short introduction over the Rocco Forte group.

Our beautiful twin bedded room was located on the sixth floor, and therefore included a breathtaking view over the old botanic garden and the city centre - luckily we had a tiny balcony to enjoy this view even more! We have been surprised by a delicious  fruit basket with chocolate and a welcoming letter. All rooms and suites were designed by the sister of Mr. Rocco Forte, have an italian touch - a truly unique amenity in Munich. The bathroom is made out of italian marble and includes a separated toilet, walk-in  shower and a big bathtub. The toiletries were made exclusively for the Rocco Forte collection by "Linari" and smelled pretty good. They have truly the biggest rooms in Munich, offering 40 square meters of pure luxury. A cozy canapé and a comfortable armchair gave the room a relaxing atmosphere.

After we settled in the room, we were ready to discover the spa area! Due to the fact that the owner has a sportive history, nearly all of his hotels feature a vast fitness and pool area. We were really impressed by the mosaic tiled walls which are representing a coral reef. I truly love the heated loungchairs which helped me regenerate from my backache. The Charles Hotel does not only feature the biggest rooms in Munich, it also has  the biggest hotel pool in the bavarian capital. Beside the refreshing indoorpool, there was also a relaxation area with sauna, steambath, foot bath and rainshowers. The whole spa area was very spacious and there were always some bottles of sparkling water to take away.

The Charles Hotel is located next to the scenic old botanic garden, and only minutes away from the central station. Compared to the competitive hotels, it's not as central as the other properties. The hotel fits quite well in this quite new and expensive district.
To capture some nice pictures of the sunset over Munich we went up to the eigth floor - literally the Suite Floor. A rooftop would have been an amazing add-on ;-). We truely reccommend to book yourself one of the three penthouse suites to get one of Munichs most wonderful views - maybe we have the chance to test one of these in the future.

After refreshing ourselves and dressing up we went to the restaurant "Davvero". We were seated by a nice lady and a wonderful evening was about to start! You DEFINITELY have to try the beef tartar topped with caviar - one of the best ways to serve "Surf & Turf"! That was the beginng of an unforettable culinary journey, which was followed by lobster ravioli and saint jacobs scallops. The "primi piatti" was acompanied by an excellent german white wine. For main course we had their fillet of beef with spinache and mashed potatoes. The perfect end was made by a variation of strawberries! We had an excellent wine paring - a wonderful addition to a wonderful dinner. The service was nice throughout the evening.

The next morning we had a wonderful breakfast at the terrace of the Charles Hotel overlooking the Botanic Garden. It was lovely to spot the passing people while enjoying breakfast under old trees in such a silent setting. As a special gift we got a plate with many sweets and pralines. We found it a lovely touch and the service is also very good. Overall the breakfast is really good, the products are of high quality.

If you are heading to Munich and are looking for a refreshed or new place, then you should head to this upscale Leading Hotel of the World. We were convinced by the Rocco Forte Hotel Collection and would be looking forward to other cooperations in other cities.

We were guests of the Rocco Forte Collection and The Charles Hotel Munich. All our overnight and dining costs were covered by the property. Nevertheless, the all above written expresses our own opinion and has not been influenced.
